For the 4th time in 7 years, MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance) will be issuing a 10% rebate cheque for all registered vehicle owners in Manitoba.

We can thank that drop in auto theft and the implementations of immobilizers on vehicles for the continuous rebates coming this year. The decision was made due to “unexpected profit margins”. The great thing about a monopolistic company such as MPI are rebates such as this. Sure, we don’t have a choice with our auto insurance such as our American counter-parts, but we get a fair rate governed by the province. An MPI spokesman also pointed out that a majority of vehicle premiums have also dropped this year.

Expect the cheques to arrive in your mailboxes the first week of May.

UPDATE: Just got my MPI cheque today! $180 big ones!! Woo hoo!
