Canada Day 2014: Whats Open and Whats Closed

Unfortunately, Canada Day isn’t a long weekend this year but there will still be plenty to do throughout the city. Here’s some assistance planning out your activities. Nothing’s worse then heading somewhere and finding out it’s closed, so make sure to read the what’s open and what’s closed list carefully.

Shopping/Grocery Stores/Leisure

Manitoba Liquor Marts Wednesday, July 1: 10:00am – 6:00pm
Winnipeg Casinos Wednesday, July 1: Open Regular Hours
Polo Park Shopping Centre Wednesday, July 1: Closed
St. Vital Shopping Centre Wednesday, July 1: Closed
Kildonan Place Wednesday, July 1: Closed

All civic offices are closed on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling, garbage, and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled for those with Wednesday as a collection day.

Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule for Wednesday, July 1.

Special Canada Day service includes:

  • A FREE Canada Day Shuttle service will operate from 12:00 p.m. noon until 12:00 a.m. midnight linking downtown, The Forks and Osborne Village.
  • Extra Route 11 Portage buses will be operating between The Forks and Assiniboine Park from 12:00 p.m. noon until 11:00 p.m. Regular transit fares apply.

Post-fireworks departures:

  • The Forks: buses will be available on Main Street between York and Graham.
  • Assiniboine Park to downtown: buses will be available at eastbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street.
  • Assiniboine Park to St. James/Assiniboia areas: buses will be available at westbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street.

Leisure Centres

All Leisure Centres are closed Wednesday, July 1. Regular hours of operation for Leisure Centres resume on Thursday, July 2.

Swimming Pools

Indoor Pools:
All City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed on Wednesday, July 1.

Outdoor Pools:
Weather permitting, all City of Winnipeg outdoor pools will be open Wednesday, July 1. Operating hours vary by pool.

Weather permitting, the following 17 wading pools will be open on Wednesday, July 1:

Spray pads will be open on Wednesday, July 1 and include the following locations:

Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed on Wednesday, July 1. Online services including eMagazines, eBooks, streaming music, movies and My Account services for requests/renewals are available anytime atwinnipeg.ca/library.

Animal Services Agency

The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Wednesday, July 1. Regular hours of operation for Animal Services resume on Thursday, July 2.

Cemeteries

Cemetery grounds at Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona Cemeteries will be open for visitation from dawn till dusk on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1.

Hours of operation for the Winnipeg Parking Authority during Canada Day are as follows:

Monday, June 29 Regular hours – 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park Golf Courses will be open on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1.
