Fast Food Restaurants “Pull” Tomatoes

You say tomato, I say tomatoe Originally uploaded by dynet

You say “Tomato”. I say “Good, no Salmonella”….

The other day I visited a local McDonalds and to my surprise there was a sign stating that McDonald’s will temporarily not be serving tomatoes with their sandwiches. For me it wasn’t really a big issue since I’m not really a tomato fan. But, I couldn’t figure out why the tomatoes have been pulled.

It turns out that there is a Salmonella outbreak in the U.S. The Winnipeg Sun states that over 144 cases of infections have been reported in the United States. The outbreak has been traced to the United States. Thankfully no Canadian grown tomatoes have been found to have been infected. But, local fast food restaurants such as Tim Hortons, McDonalds, and Subway are not taking the risk and are currently not serving tomatoes until further notice.
