Apple Announces the iPhone 3G S

Apple has announced the iPhone 3G S, the successor of the iPhone and iPhone 3G. The [s] is for speed. The new iPhone will have the same design as the 3G, but now contain an upgraded processor and a 3mp auto-focus camera that is capable of video recording.

The iPhone 3G S is slated to be released on June 17, 2009. It will replace the iPhone 3G 16gb model for $199. The 32gb model will sell for $299.

The current iPhone 3G will still be available in a 8gb model and will drop to $99.

Apple also announced a release date for the much anticipated 3.0 update for the iPhone. It will also be available on June 17.

UPDATE: From Rogers/Fido social media rep Keith McArthur:
– Both Rogers Wireless and Fido will offer iPhone 3GS starting June 19.
– Rogers/Fido pricing is $199 for 16GB iPhone 3GS; $299 for 32GB iPhone 3GS on a three-year voice and data plan. (Canadian funds!)
– 8GB version of the iPhone 3G will drop to $99 on June 19 at Rogers and Fido with a three-year voice and data plan.
– Rogers is reintroducing the $30/6GB data plan for iPhones effective tomorrow, June 9. Offer available for a limited time.

Rogers Policy on iPhone 3.0 Tethering
Tethering is the use of your phone as a wireless modem to connect to the Internet from your computer. For a limited time, if you subscribe to a data plan which includes at least 1GB of data transmission between June 8, 2009 and December 31, 2009, you may use tethering as part of the volume of data included in your plan at no additional charge. Tethering cannot be used with data plans of less than 1GB.
