September Long Weekend 2009 Closures

It’s going to be an AMAZING long weekend!! The sun will be shining and the parks will be packed! Here are whats open/closed. As usual, the movie theatre is probably the only thing to do if you’re afraid of the sun.

Labour Day: An annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from the labour union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. Most countries celebrate Labour Day on May 1, but some (such as Canada, Bermuda, and the USA) celebrate on the first Monday of September. So if you were planning on going down to the States on Monday to get some shopping done, good luck because everything will be closed too.

Garbage/Recycling Collection
Single-Family Homes
There will be no recycling or garbage collection on Monday, September 7, 2009. Collection will resume on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 – Day 1.
Multi-Family Apartments
Recycling and garbage collection will continue as normally scheduled.

Winnipeg Transit
Monday, September 7, 2009, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Libraries
All libraries are closed on Sunday, September 6, 2009 and Monday, September 7, 2009.

Assiniboine Park Zoo
Open 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Swimming Pools
All indoor pools are closed on Monday, September 7, 2009, except the Pan Am Pool, which will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Shopping
Wal-Mart
All walmarts are closed on Monday, September 7, 2009.
St. Vital Shopping Centre
Closed on Monday, September 7, 2009.
Polo Park Shopping Centre
Closed on Monday, September 7, 2009.
