Winnipeg’s First T&T Supermarket Opening at Old Arena?

The Winnipeg Sun reports that an unnamed “Asian food store” will be taking over the old Winnipeg Arena lot at Polo Park. The lot has been vacant for over 4 years.

Shindico Inc, the property developer, refused to name which Asian supermarket it would be. A few hints they did provide was that it will be a 45,000-square-foot location and it is a company that will be new to Winnipeg.

It’s no secret that T&T has been trying to expand to Winnipeg, and I can’t picture any other Asian supermarket being able to occupy a 45,000-square-foot location. If I was a betting man, I’d put all my money on it being Winnipeg’s first T&T Supermarket.

The supermarket will be a retail anchor of an overall 200,000-square-foot commercial business site. I’m looking forward to see what other great things are to replace the old Arena.

The supermarket is expected to be open by the end of 2011.
