Councillor Wants Winnipeg to Test Synthetic Ice

Hockey purists may not be too happy, but the St. Vital Coun. Gord Steeves wants the City of Winnipeg’s community services department to explore the idea of installing synthetic ice surfaces.

The synthetic ice is apparantly supposed to cost less then maintaining the regular conventional ice rinks.

Steeves, who plays hockey regularly, plans to bring this into motion on this morning before his committee to give staff 3 months to consider the merits of synthetic ice, including their purchase and installation costs.
