Winnipeg Amber Lights to Remain at 4 Seconds

The city decided to keep the amber traffic light duration minimum to 4 seconds instead of pushing it up an additional second to 5. City Public Service was asked to review a U.S. State of Georgia law that requires amber lights to be the Federal standard (4 seconds) plus 1.

After reviewing the State of Georgia data, it showed that adding an extra second to traffic lights didn’t have any benefit. I agree and believe that it would probably cause more harm than good. There are so many people that run amber lights already. Adding an extra second will just give them the idea that there is more time to run the lights.
