Canada Day 2011 Closures

It’s going to be an amazing Canada Day Long Weekend and here’s some assistance on planning it out. Nothing’s worse then heading somewhere and finding out it’s closed, so make sure to read the what’s open and what’s closed list carefully.

Also, Winnipeg Transit is doing a lot of special things on Canada Day… make sure to check them out as well.

Liquor Marts/Beer Vendors
– All Liquor Marts will be open 12-6 (except City Place Liquor Mart which will be closed)
– Beer Vendors will vary depending on management

Shopping Malls
St. Vital Centre: Closed
Kildonan Place: Closed
Polo Park Shopping Centre: Closed
City Place: Closed (Boston Pizza open 11am – 2am)

All civic offices will be closed on Friday, July 1, 2011.

Recycling/Garbage Schedule

Single-family homes
There will be no recycling or garbage collection on Friday, July 1. Collection will resume on Monday, July 4 – Day 3 on the five-day cycle.

Multi-family apartments
Recycling and garbage collection will continue as normally scheduled.

Brady Road Landfill hours of operation
Friday, July 1 – 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 2 – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 3 – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Libraries
Libraries are closed Friday, July 1 and resume regular hours on Saturday, July 2. Visit winnipeg.ca/library for more information and for online services of Winnipeg Public Library including online renewals, and downloadable eBooks and audiobooks. Call 311 for library hours and locations.

Animal Services Agency
Animal Services will be closed Friday, July 1. Regular weekend hours are in effect for Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3. Visit winnipeg.ca/animalservices for more information on the City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency including how to purchase or renew your dog license and a list of dogs available for adoption.

Leisure Centres
All Leisure Centres are closed Friday, July 1. Regular hours of operation are in effect on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3. Visit http://www.winnipeg.ca/cms/recreation/facilities/leisurecentres/ or call 311 for more information on City leisure centres.

Golf Courses
Regular hours of operation are in effect at all municipal golf courses. For more information, including how to book a tee time, visit http://winnipeg.ca/ppd/golf.stm.

Pools

Indoor Pools
All indoor pools will be closed Friday, July 1.

Outdoor Pools
All outdoor pools will be open July 1. Pool times vary with most pools. Visit Community – Pools or call 311 for more information on City swimming pools.

Wading Pools
Weather permitting, the following 16 wading pools will be open Friday, July 1:

* Bronx Park
* Central Park
* Dakota Park
* JH Bruns Park
* Keenleyside Park
* Machray Park
* McKittrick Park
* Norquay Community Centre
* Pascoe Park
* Pirates Park
* Roblin Park Community Club
* Shaughnessy Park
* Vimy Ridge Park
* Westwood Browning Park

Hours vary, however most are open 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The regular season schedule is in effect July 2. For schedule information, please call 311 or view the wading pool schedule .

Spray Pads
All spray pads open from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and include: Fort Rouge Park, Lindenwoods Community Centre, Provencher Park, River Heights Community Club and St. Norbert Community Centre.

Winnipeg Transit
Friday, July 1, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Special Canada Day Service
FREE Canada Day Shuttle linking Downtown, The Forks and Osborne Village. The FREE shuttle begins at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, and runs until 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 2.

11 Portage Extra Service
Winnipeg Transit will operate extra Route 11 Portage buses between The Forks and Assiniboine Park from noon until 11:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1. Regular transit fares apply.

Post-Fireworks Departures
Leaving The Forks:
Buses depart from Main Street at York

Leaving Assiniboine Park – East to downtown:
Buses available at eastbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street

Leaving Assiniboine Park – West to St. James – Assiniboia areas:
Buses available at westbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street
