New Garbage System Coming in 2012

The city will be implementing a new garbage collection in 2012 that should affect every home in Winnipeg.

If you currently put your garbage into large autobins (usually located in a backlane), then you will be the first to notice the change. Beginning in April 2012, the autobins will be replaced with a rolling garbage cart per home.

The autobins are designed to limit garbage disposal per home and control how much garbage is disposed of per week. Currently, these autobins can get very full to the point that they overflow. The plan is to reduce that amount of garbage that ends up in our landfills.

The rest of the city will get the rolling carts starting in August.

There will be a mandatory $50 annual fee for the new garbage program that will begin once everyone has their carts. Garbage collection will be on the same weekday each week for each neighborhood. [CTV WINNIPEG]
