Janine Hanson, American-born and Winnipeg-raised, will take home a Silver Medal with Team Canada’s second place finish in the Women’s Eight competition. This will be the second Silver Medal won by Canadian rowers in the 2012 games.

Hanson is a member of the quad sculls crew at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing that finished 8th. She is a two-time World Championships silver medalist in the eight in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Hanson made the switch from sculling to sweeping, having not swept since early college days. At the 2007 World Championships, she competed in the quad sculls finishing 5th.

American-born and Winnipeg-raised, Hanson, a St. Mary’s Academy alumni, graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Movement Science from the University of Michigan, where she rowed for four years. While at Michigan, she won two Big-10 Championships, had two top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships, and was the recipient of the 2006 Big-10 Sportsmanship Award and the 2006 All–Star Award.
