Hidden River Country Inn

Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!

The building began as a pioneer home built in 1942 but two dining rooms have been added on to make the Hidden River Country Inn that exists today. Their main dining room is full of natural light, so it’s no wonder that they specialize in Sunday brunch. They also cater to small functions, like birthday parties, baby showers and intimate weddings. We cannot comment on their actual hotel rooms, but we can say that the food is a must-try.

The buffet line begins with a choice of three salads, Caesar, coleslaw and a house salad were the choices on our visit, but the server mentioned that the choices often alternate. An assortment of muffins and bagels are next in line, before you reach the hot food section of the buffet. Blueberry pancakes and French toast were up next, followed by scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The breakfast quickly turns into brunch with a choice of sweet and sour meatballs, perogies, season vegetables and chicken breast.

The dining area provides a calm and peaceful atmosphere, with the abundance of clean white décor, natural sunlight and a type of simplicity that shines through.

On each of our visits, the food has been consistently good, fresh and satisfying. They rotate the lunch-style items, which can either be a good or a bad thing. We highly recommend the meatballs, but certainly hope they’re available when you try Hidden River! We definitely appreciate that they keep a good variety happening either way, for the return customers.
Hidden River Country Inn is a perfect place for a slow and lazy Sunday brunch. Buffets are few and far between in Winnipeg; and a lot of them are very casual, crowded or fast-paced. Hidden River provides customers with a calm and inviting atmosphere that seems to suit a small birthday party, a large event or just a brunch for two.
