Kimchi Sushi

Kimchi Sushi

Hello Winnipeg, we are Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant. We’re passionate about food, but not about cooking. After growing tired of everyday chain restaurants, we began our search for the best hidden eateries the city has to offer. Ever wonder if that trendy new place is worth the money; or if that greasy burger joint lives up to all the hype? Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Restaurant!

Kimchi Sushi

They are located on Keewatin Street and are an exciting addition to this area of the city. Residents who live near Kimchi are clearly excited, as they normally would be driving downtown, to St. James or another area of the city for a quality sushi meal.

Kimchi has transformed a bland strip-mall space into a cozy retreat with dark colors and twinkling white lights hanging from the ceiling. This décor creates a great ambience and it seems that no details were missed; the space is outstanding.

The menu features a good mix of sushi options and Korean meal dishes. We decided on Tempura Stuffed Mushrooms to start, with a Tiger Roll, Smoked Salmon Nigiri and the Bulgogi dish as our mains. The prices at Kimchi are reasonable and average, but not cheap.

The Tempura Mushrooms were something like The Keg’s Mushroom Neptune dish, but covered in a crisp tempura batter. This is the kind of appetizer you’ll crave and come back for! The sushi is fresh and presented well and overall, we really enjoyed it. The Bulgogi appears like it might be dry, but after the first few bites, the delicate marinade really begins to shine through. If you are one to order cooked dishes at Sushi restaurants, this provides a good alternative to the options that are usually drenched in a heavy sauce.

Overall, Kimchi provides a good experience, good food and a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy it in.
