Various changes to Manitoba Liquor Laws will come into effect on April 1, 2014 and bring modernized rules to the province. The change will introduce new hospitality opportunities, eliminate red tape and improve public safety.

It is a complete overhaul of laws that have been pretty much unchanged for 60 years. Businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the new rules to bring Manitoba establishments into the modern era.

Once in place, Mantiobans will have more places to drink alcohol, like sipping on wine while at the hairdressers. Have you ever went to a restaurant and was told you couldn’t order alcohol without ordering food? Well that law is gone as well!

It will also be easier for businesses to apply for special licences to extend operating hours for special events – similar to what was allowed during the Olympic men’s hockey final. Bars were allowed to open at 5am that day.

A few rules that remain the same are minimum prices of alcohol, and you’ll still need at least three people to buy a pitcher of beer. All you can drink events are also still not allowed in Manitoba (unless its a private function like a wedding).
