The Winnipeg Blue Bombers selected some great talent in the 2014 CFL Draft this week. The team received the second overall pick. The Ottawa Redblacks traded their first overall pick to the Calgary Stampeders who selected Pierre Lavertu (offensive lineman).


Winnipeg Blue Bombers Draft Summary:

Round 1, Pick 2: Matthias Goossen (offensive lineman)
Goossen (6-4, 294, Simon Fraser, Richmond, BC), has been named a GNAC First Team All-Conference the past three seasons at Simon Fraser. Named to the conference all-star team the past two seasons, he started all 10 games in 2013 for the Clan. He was also named a BSN Pre-Season All-American prior to the 2012 season. Goossen played every position on the offensive line during his time at Simon Fraser, while also being the offensive line captain the past two seasons.

Round 2, Pick 8 (From Saskatchewan): Jesse Briggs (linebacker)
Briggs (6-0, 230, McGill, Kelowna, BC) recorded 40 defensive tackles (31 solo), 2 quarterback sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble in eight games in 2013. He also played for Team East in the CIS East-West Bowl.

Round 4: Derek Jones (defensive back)
Jones (6-1, 181, Simon Fraser, Edmonton, AB) recorded 34 defensive tackles (23 solo) and 2 interceptions in seven games in 2013. The previous two seasons, Jones racked up 78 tackles, two interceptions and 28 pass defended. He began his tenure with Simon Fraser in 2010.

Round 6: Quinn Everett (defensive tackle)
Everett (6-3, 305, Mount Allison, Glen Haven, NS) played in 24 games for Mount Allison, recording 49 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for losses and one forced fumble.

Round 7: Aram Eisho (linebacker)
Eisho (6-1, 210, McMaster, Hamilton, ON) finished 2013 with 63 total tackles, and one interception. In 2012, he was the OUA defensive player of the year and enjoyed a sensational season. Eisho registered a total of 52.5 tackles in eight games and led the OUA in solo tackles with 50. He also had three quarterback sacks. In the 2011 Vanier Cup, he was named the top defensive player and awarded the Bruce Coulter Award recording 11.5 tackles and one forced fumble.
