The province has reopened the Lake St. Martin emergency outlet channel to give some relief to the swollen Lake Manitoba.
Lake St. Martin residents have been urging the province to open an emergency channel to bring down the water, but local fishermen fear that it will ruin their fishing season. Debris from the rushing water gets caught in fishing nets, making it difficult to catch fish.
The channel is expected to remain open until next spring.
