Winnipeg Theatres Will Not Show 'The Interview'

Due to 9/11 style threats, theatre companies all across North America have decided not to play Sony’s The Interview.

This includes Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex Entertainment, which runs all the major theatres in Winnipeg.

“Cineplex takes seriously its commitment to the freedom of artistic expression, but we want to reassure our guests and staff that their safety and security is our number one priority. We look forward to a time when this situation is resolved and those responsible are apprehended,” Pat Marshall, Cineplex vice president of communications and investor relations, said in the statement.

Hackers (supposedly from North Korea) threatened to bring 9/11 scale violence to anyone who watched The Interview – which is a comedy about assassinating Kim Jong-Un.

“First, foremost and always the safety of our staff and our guests is what matters most,” said a statement from Landmark Cinemas. “Delaying the showing of The Interview from its scheduled release on Christmas Day, although unfortunate, is the right thing to do.”

In the U.S, Regal Entertainment, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, and Carmike Cinemas have all decided against showing the film.

Sony is now considering a VOD or online release of The Interview.
