City Council Approves Waverley Underpass Project

City Council has voted in favour of building a new underpass on Waverly. Preliminary design has been completed and the detailed design process will take place throughout 2016. Construction is expected to begin in early 2017.

Approximately 30,000 vehicles and between 35 and 40 trains pass through the Waverly and CN train rail line intersection daily. It has become a major bottleneck to traffic to and from the southwest quadrant of the city.

The Waverley Underpass Project will include replacement of the existing at-grade railway crossing at Waverley and Taylor with an underpass.

The project also includes the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Waverley Street. Taylor Avenue between Waverley Street and Lindsay Street will be increased to four lanes.

Total project cost is approximately $155 million.
