Health Minister Jane Philpott has announced that it will introduce a legislation to legalizing marijuana in the spring of 2017.

“We will introduce legislation in spring 2017 that ensures we keep marijuana out of the hands of children and profits out of the hands of criminals,” Philpott said. “While this plan challenges the status quo in many countries, we are convinced it is the best way to protect our youth while enhancing public safety.”

Her address was made on April 20, better known as 4/20, an annual day of celebration for marijuana activists.

A recent poll showed that 68 per cent of Canadians feel marijuana should be made legal. Legalizing marijuana could bring $7.5B in tax revenue every year and create a few new jobs for the economy.
