The Winnipeg Police Twitter account has answered the question that many Winnipeg motorists have been asking since they got behind the wheel of a car…

Exactly how many lanes are on Arlington St between Portage Ave and Notre Dame Ave?

The street is very wide, sometimes its used as two lanes (one lane each direction), and sometimes its used as four lanes (two lanes each direction).

The confusion has caused many collisions and frustrated drivers.

There you have it. Unless there are lane markers, then it is a single lane in the direction your are traveling. On Arlington, though it’s sometimes wide enough for four lanes, there is only one lane marker, and its to divide southbound traffic and northbound traffic. Which makes Arlington St between Portage Ave and Notre Dame Ave a two lane road (one lane each direction).
