Paul Faraci, the inventor of The Pizza Pops has died at age 89.

Paul invented the Pizza Pop in Winnipeg after he had a conversation with a customer. The customer urged him to visit a restaurant on Ellice Avenue and try a panzerotti. He did, but didn’t enjoy it. It was “very thick and there was very little sauce, very little flavour”. So he decided to create his own. He thinned out the crust and added some pepperoni and mushrooms and the Pizza Pop was born.

He eventually set up a manufacturing plant on Higgins Avenue and added additional flavours such as Deluxe and Hawaiian. Eventually, his business partners bought him out and later sold the company to Pillsbury.
