How To Safely Boxing Day Shop During a Pandemic

Boxing Day is one of the biggest and busiest shopping days of the year. It’s when overstocked holiday items go on sale. It’s when kids can spend that Christmas cash from Grandma. And it’s when adults can purchase everything they didn’t get.

However, as with everything else, COVID-19 is going to make that difficult this year. Manitoba’s CODE RED restrictions state that only essential items can be purchased in-store. So here’s a few tips on how to shop on Boxing Day.

Shop Online

The obvious solution will be to shop online. All big box retailers will have secure online stores to make your big ticket purchases. Most will offer free shipping after a minimum spend. Take note, some online Boxing Day sales will start as early as December 24. Visit our 2020 Boxing Day Round Up page for all the deals.

Remember, when shopping online, you are competing with thousands of shoppers across Canada. Limited quantity items will sell out fairly quickly. If you’re looking to purchase a door crasher, make sure to make your purchase as soon as the items go on sale.

Canada Post, as well as other delivery companies are currently overwhelmed with the holiday rush, and that’s expected to continue into the new year. Shipping may take weeks. If you need an item immediately then read on….

Shop for Curb Side Pickup

Some retailers will have limited time slots open for curbside pick up. The curbside pick up process will be exactly as if you were purchasing the item online, however, instead of the retailer shipping the item to you, you will pick it up at the store. Beware, curbside pick up time slots are extremely limited and you’ll have to act quick if you want to secure a spot.

Shop In Store

We understand that there are some shoppers who don’t have access to a credit card to shop online. You can still shop in person on Boxing Day, but due to Manitoba’s CODE RED restrictions, only essential items will be available (food, winter clothing, etc etc). If you do have to shop in store, remember to wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing.

Shop Later During Boxing Week

Most retailers are offering Boxing Week deals aside from Boxing Day deals. If you do need to shop in store, avoid going on December 26. Deals will be available throughout the week and should be less crowded.
