Halloween is over and you’re invited to dispose of your jack-o’-lanterns & decorative gourds at Compost Winnipeg’s 1st Annual Pumpkin Drop on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at CF Polo Park!

What is a “Pumpkin Drop”?
In partnership with CF Polo Park, Winnipeggers are invited to drop pumpkins off at the 2nd level of the parkade into the back of a Hino collection truck for composting. This event is opening up to the general public to have their jack-o’-lanterns composted and experience the thrill of tossing it off a roof (of sorts).

When?
Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10:00am to2:00 pm

FREE!
While this event is free, we welcome donations which we will put towards compost collection service for a local social service.

Where?
CF Polo Park Southeast Parkade

(Near Sports Chek), 2nd level

Why?
Of the 80,000 tonnes of pumpkins produced in Canada, 66% are sold to consumers; often used for carving and are never eaten. Without intervention, this is an immense amount of organic waste destined for the landfill.

Furthermore, every year Compost Winnipeg has great difficulty accommodating all the pumpkins at their regular collection routes due to the space and volume they take up. This year they are trying this fun and unique approach to the problem while bringing attention to the importance of composting.
