Winnipeg has been named the world’s top intelligent community by the Intelligent Community Forum. We are the first Canadian city to receive this honour since Montréal, Quebec was named in 2016.
In June 2021, Winnipeg was named one of seven finalists for the Intelligent Community of the Year… Winnipeg had previously been named a Top7 Intelligent Community in 2018, 2016, and 2014.
Reasons for the nomination include in-person services and events shifting online, online library access, online permits, and adopting open data programs.
“For years, Winnipeg has been a powerhouse of connectivity, innovation, creativity, and culture on the Canadian prairies,” Mayor Brian Bowman says in a video, noting that reconciliation is an important part of this. “This recognition from ICF is very meaningful to our city and the people who have worked tirelessly to improve our community and raise its profile on the global stage.”
Earlier this year, TIME magazine named Winnipeg as one of the greatest places in the world.
