What’s Open and Closed Remembrance Day 2022

Remembrance Day will give most Winnipeggers a long weekend this year! Here’s a list of what’s open and closed on Friday, November 11, 2022.

As per Manitoba’s Remembrance Day Act, retail businesses are prohibited to operate between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Remembrance Day.


The prohibition does not apply to a retail business if the only goods or services sold between 9:00am and 1:00pm are:

  • goods or services in the form of or in connection with living accommodation or prepared meals and sale or offering for sale of those goods or services is the principal business of the person;
  • professional health services;
  • veterinary services;
  • drugs, medicines, surgical appliances or infant formula;
  • gasoline, motor oil or related products; or
  • parts and services for the purpose of emergency repairs to a vehicle.

All civic offices are closed Friday, November 11.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling, garbage, and yard waste will not be collected on Friday, November 11. If your collection day falls on or after the holiday, please put your carts and yard waste out one day later for this week only (put them out on Saturday).

The Brady Road Resource Management Facility (Brady Road Landfill) and all 4R Winnipeg Depots are closed on Friday, November 11.

Winnipeg Transit

On Friday, November 11, Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

To honour the men and women who have sacrificed for our country, the City of Winnipeg will be offering free transit service on November 11 to armed forces veterans, current serving personnel, including cadets and reservists, and one companion.

Those who wish to use this free service may do so by wearing a military uniform, or by presenting military identification or CF1 card at the time of boarding. When displaying one of the above, the individual should also identify their companion to the operator.

“Lest We Forget” will be displayed as a banner message on all Winnipeg Transit buses on Friday, November 11, in rotation with regular route and destination messages.

Winnipeg Transit will also be observing a moment of silence in honour of Remembrance Day. At 11 a.m., Transit operators will pull over and stop their buses at safe locations to recognize one minute of silence.


Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed on Friday, November 11. Online services, including downloadable eBooks, catalogue searching, and holds/renewals, are available anytime at City of Winnipeg – Winnipeg Public Libraries.

Arenas, Indoor Pools, Fitness & Leisure Centres

Arenas, indoor pools, and fitness & leisure centres will be closed on Friday, November 11, with the exception of the following sites:

  • Margaret Grant pool will be open from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Pan Am pool will be open from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Animal Services

The Animal Services Agency will be closed on Friday, November 11.

Cemeteries

Parking

On Friday, November 11:

  • The Parking Store will be closed.
  • The Millennium Library Parkade will be open.
  • All on-street paid parking is free of charge, but time limits are still in effect.
