SUMMARY:Art and Métis Rights
DESCRIPTION:ennine Krauchi is the artist behind the remarkable beaded and embroidered Octopus Bag on display in the Indigenous Perspectives gallery. Thought to be the largest art pieces of its type in the world\, the work features designs that are unique to Métis people and highlights their experiences of displacement. \nJennine Krauchi will be joined by Métis Elder George Fleury who directly experienced road allowance relocations\, and Lawrence Barkwell\, Coordinator of Métis Heritage and History Research at the Louis Riel Institute. This presentation will discuss the origins of Métis beadwork\, the making of the Octopus Bag and road allowance people. \nThis presentation will take place in English.
