As jazz fans turned to cutting-edge bebop over the old big-band swing\, Ellington was forced to pay his band members out of pocket. That all changed at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival and a chaotic night that lives in infamy. Join the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra\, featuring saxophonist Niall Bakastaad-Legare\, as we pay tribute to the remarkable night that revived Duke Ellington’s Big Band\, landed him on the cover of TIME Magazine\, and rocketed him back to superstardom. \n—– \nThe West End Cultural Centre believes a healthy community is at the heart of everything we do. In accordance with the Manitoba Government and Manitoba Health protocols –  \n\nAll performers\, crew\, staff\, volunteers\, and patrons must show proof of vaccination and photo ID before they can enter the venue. \nFace masks are required on all WECC premises. THE ROOM will stand the test of time as one of the most mind-bendingly awesome offerings to ever drop from the celluloid heavens. \nCompletely financed and distributed by Mr. Wiseau\, this divine piece of WTF-ery has built a cult following playing midnight screenings across the country and solidified its place as an insanely unique phenomenon. The Guardian described it as a mix of “Tennessee Williams\, Ed Wood and R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet.” That’s about as apt a description as we could possibly provide \n \nActor Greg Sestero will appear live at the screening. Since co-starring in THE ROOM\, Sestero has co-written the book “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room\, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made.”
