TOP 5 POUTINES IN WINNIPEG

I am in LOVE with poutines, it’s one of the many things I miss when leaving Canada… Remember the days when McDonalds had a below par poutine?

Origins via Wikipedia:
The dish originated in rural Quebec, Canada in the late 1950s and is now popular in many parts of the country. Several Québécois communities claim to be the birthplace of poutine, including Drummondville (by Jean-Paul Roy in 1964), Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and Victoriaville. One often-cited tale is that of Fernand Lachance, from Warwick, Quebec, which claims that poutine was invented in 1957, when a customer ordered fries while waiting for his cheese curds from the Kingsey cheese factory in Kingsey Falls (now in Warwick and owned by Saputo Incorporated). Lachance is said to have exclaimed ça va faire une maudite poutine (“it will make a damn mess”), hence the name. The sauce was allegedly added later, to keep the fries warm longer.

Here are my personal favorites, make sure to give us yours in the comments section!

5. Juniors
Open late so you can grab your poutine to-go at any time of day! The servings are often nice and large with skin-on home style fries.

4. Johnny G’s
Looking to dine-in late? Then Johnny G’s has got a great HUGE poutine waiting for you! Words can’t explain how big this poutine is, and I still have not built the gut to finish one off.

3. Degree’s @ U of M
I never went to UofM, but one thing keeps my coming back even though I have NO reason to be there. Degree’s has a great atmosphere with a unique way of tracking orders with trophies! Nevertheless, their poutines are up to par with some of the greatest in Winnipeg!

2. Burger King
Another great poutine because of its to-go portability. This poutine also has sentimental value to me, whenever I eat it I’m reminded of ‘travel’ and ‘vacation’. This is because it’s the only thing I ever eat during the 3-4 hour stop overs at the Vanoucver International Airport – and also usually the last time I eat a poutine for a LONG time!

New York Fries Poutine

1. New York Fries
Rich Dark Gravy, Smooth Soft Cheese Curds, Legendary Fires – Though I wish their large order could be larger… this poutine will forever remain legendary and hold a place in my heart.
