Beginning January 1, 2015, cat owners in Winnipeg will have to pay $15.00 for a spayed or neutered cat and $50.00 for an intact cat. If you don’t license your feline, you could be subject to a $250.00 fine.

Dog license fees will remain the same. $31 for spayed and neutered and $65 for intact dogs.

The cat licensing requirement is attached to a new Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw. The bylaw also states that travelling zoos and circuses will not be able to use exotic animals. The ban on pit bulls will stay and backyard chickens will still be banned.

Cat owners can pre-purchase licences starting December 1, 2014.
