To help stop the spread of COVID-19, garage sales and yard sales have been temporarily banned in Winnipeg. The ban is part of current public health orders that forbids visitation on private property (indoor or outdoor).

The fine for breaking these rules is $1,296. If you have a bunch of items you want to sell, you’ll have to wait until these restrictions are lifted. Winnipeg’s Spring Giveaway weekend has also been cancelled, which makes getting rid of unwanted items a bit more difficult.

An alternate option is to sell the items on Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji, and then arrange a meeting on outdoor public property, such as a park, where gatherings up to 10 people are allowed.

The current public health orders are in effect until May 25, 2021.
