demolition downtown cleanup police Originally uploaded by AccessWinnipeg
Well, if by curtains I mean walls and by closes I mean torn down, then yes…the Starland Theatre has closed it’s curtains.
The demolition took an unfortunate turn for the worse (or fortunate as no one was hurt) when part of the front of the building fell on to the street and sidewalk closing southbound Main Street for the rest of the evening while it was cleaned up.
Access Winnipeg was there to see all the action (except the initial demo) and got this great shot of absolutely nothing happening. On the bright side, the Starland sign will be restored by The Neon Factory, but has yet to get a home.
The building demolition is all part of Winnipeg’s plan to clean up downtown and will be replaced by a modern office building.
