The Canadian Men’s Archery Team has been eliminated from Olympic Play. The team consisted of Crispin Duenas, 22, of Scarborough, Ont., Toronto’s J.D. Burnes, 20, and Winnipeg’s own Jayson Lyon, 22.

They lost to Italy in a tight quarter-finals game 219-217. Italy went on to win Silver losing to the defending champions South Korea. The quarter final loss put Canada in 11th place.

The Canadians had a 4-point lead after the first 2 rounds but Italy shot five bullseyes in the 3rd round to overtake team Canada by 1 point. Italy would go on and gain one more point in the 4th and final round to win the match.

Canada’s men are scheduled to compete in the individual elimination round on Aug. 13. After individual ranking rounds on Day 1 of the Games, Duenas is Canada’s top-ranked archer, sitting at No. 16.

Winnipeg’s Lyon is ranked 47 and Burnes is ranked 50.
