Minimum wage will be jumping up to $9/hour by the end of 2009.

On May 1, 2009, the minimum wage will go up 25 cents to $8.75.

On October 1, 2009, it will go up another 25 cents to $9.00.

The last increase in wage was in April when it went from $8.00 to $8.50/hr. We can expect more backlash coming from restaurant owners who can’t afford to pay their employees the higher minimum wage. But there will also be a small business tax cut (in half to 1 percent) that should even out the field.

The province decided to make the announcement closer to Christmas eve hoping that any voices of dissension would get lost in the holiday din.
