Did you purchase the Dark Knight on Bluray? Then you probably noticed that various scenes on the Bluray would jump from a regular 2.40:1 aspect ratio to a full sized widescreen 1.78:1 ratio.
The full sized widescreen 1.78:1 ratio scenes are scenes that were filmed with a special IMAX camera! The camera was mainly used during high action scenes in the movie so the director could capture as much of action as possible. Why didn’t they film the whole movie in IMAX? Because the IMAX camera is too big and heavy to film in tight areas such as indoor dialogue scenes.
Now you can watch those IMAX scenes on a true IMAX screen if you missed it the last time around! Our IMAX in Winnipeg will be re-airing The Dark Knight from January 23 to February 22.
