That loaf of bread, fuel, and/or clothing for your favorite niece/nephew are a few things may cost more if both provincial and government sales become harmonized into one tax.
Manitoba Finance Minister Greg Selinger is considering the new harmonized sales tax after being offered more money from the Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. They claim that with the harmonized tax it will help the local businesses as they will now have more “pot-hole” money It seems more of a tax grab than anything else as the people who will mostly be affected is new home buyers where that extra 5% tax could cost you a few extra thousand dollars.
Let’s see how this pans out.
