Winnipeg has won the bid to become 2010’s Cultural Capital of Canada. To win the bid the City and other arts organizations presented a program of proposed events.
The highlight of the event was a one-day river arts festival that had the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and other groups performing on floating stages near The Forks.
The City will receive $2 million in funding from Ottawa. Past winners of the Cultural Capital bid include Edmonton in 2007, Surrey, B.C. in 2008 and Trois Rivières, Quebec this year. It should be a great time to explore Winnipeg’s performing arts and history!
