From the official press release:

The Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Officers who work in Winnipeg’s North End are hosting a free hockey skills camp for area students from September 1st – 4th, 2009.

The camp is open to students between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age. The camp’s intent is to provide students the opportunity to get on the ice prior to the minor hockey and high school try outs; and continue to build positive relationships with police officers.

Constable Scott Wiley, School Resource Officer for St. Johns High School says, “There are a lot of skilled players and coaches in the Police Service, and the guys have been great by coming out to work with the kids. A couple of the officers who will be helping out have played professionally or at the Junior Level, and this allows them a chance to meet some kids and enjoy something they have in common.”

Some equipment will be made available for use during the camp.

The Camp will run on September 1st through 4th starting at 3:30 p.m. and will take place at the West Kildonan Community Centre.

To register please contact one of the School Resource Officers involved.

I think this is a pretty good idea, all about giving kids the chance to enjoy sports, we should all applaud efforts like this so they happen more often.
