Existing Winnipeg Grocery retailers aren’t going to lay their hands and fold to a new Wal-mart Supercentre.
Just weeks after Wal-mart announced its plans for a Supercentre Grocery location on Regent Ave., Safeway responded by cutting prices on thousands of items in store.
They’ve introduced an Everyday Low Prices program that will compete with region specific prices to make sure Safeway is still one of your stop for groceries.
Competition is always a great thing for consumers. Let’s hope more retailers follow the same pattern. How exactly can Safeway afford these price cuts? I’m sure child-labour isn’t involved (see photo above).
