Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, the Forks North Portage Development Corporation and Portage Place bring us a new Downtown entertainment initiative specifically for those of us who work in Downtown Winnipeg. Bringing the action and life of the Forks over to Portage Place, it certainly sounds like lunches for us down here will be a little more lively. You can read up after that jump!
From noon-1pm and from 4pm-5pm, buskers of all types will wow and dazzle downtown crowds five days a week from Monday to Friday. Buskers will be located at the Edmonton Court entrance to Portage Place at the intersection of Portage and Edmonton by the bus shelter.
The program will run throughout the summer with acts changing every day. During the first week, check out music from Jason Maas, Kerri Woelke, David Sweatman and many more.
“This is a great way to get downtown workers engaged in their surroundings during their lunch break and on their way home,” says Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “We’d like to create that positive kind of energy you experience at The Forks with music and entertainment in front of Portage Place.”
Later in the summer, watch for additional programming such as a craft market, caricaturists, performance art and more
As I used to work at the Forks, I know that I do miss the random buskers. The 2 man bands were pretty sweet to listen to while eating my chicken fried rice.
