In a few years, photos such as the one taken above of Polar Bears at Churchill, Manitoba, will no longer be possible. Experts predict that Churchill Polar Bears will be extinct in the very near future.
The province of Manitoba is going to do what they can to prevent this from happening. The first step is opening a new Polar Bear Conservation Centre at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. $4.5 million will be used to renovate the current Polar Bear exhibit at the Zoo. It has been empty since Debby the polar bear died in 2008.
The centre will have 6-7 polar bear cubs and will also be a place for research. Most research will be done away from public viewing but the public will get a chance to see them once they are adult bears.
