One of Winnipeg’s trademark Chinatown restaurants will be closing its doors for good. Shanghai Restaurant on 238 King St. has been serving some of Winnipeg’s finest Chinese food for almost 70 years. The building will be demolished and replaced with a seniors-home.

City council voted in mid-December to have the building demolished due to its age and possible instability. Heritage Winnipeg urged the city to the keep the building as a heritage building but the council wasn’t convinced.

The last meals were served up last Sunday. Deconstruction/construction is expected to begin shortly.
