Minneapolis-based Target has purchased Zellers from Hudson’s Bay Co. for $1.8 billion. The deal will give Target leasehold interest to 220 Zellers locations in Canada.
Those Zellers stores will continue to operate as Zellers for a period of time. Target will eventually convert 100-150 of those Zellers stores to Target in 2013 and 2014. The remaining store locations will be closed and leased off to other retailers.
Zellers will truly be missed.. but I’m looking forward to shopping at Target without having to drive down to Grand Forks.
