This is no surprise, but Manitoba Moose has been officially moved to St. Johns, Newfoundland. The AHL’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the relocation of the AHL franchise owned by True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd. from Winnipeg to St. John’s, N.L., to begin play there with the 2011-12 season.

The former Manitoba Moose, which was originally the Vancouver Canucks development affiliate, will now serve as Winnipeg’s new NHL team’s top development affiliate.

This marks the return of AHL to St. Johns which hosted AHL hockey for 14 seasons from 1991-2005 as the St. John’s Maple Leafs.

The AHL continues to be a strong force in the NHL’s development. 87 percent of all players competing in the NHL are AHL graduates.

Thank you for the wonderful seasons Moose! Good luck in St. John’s.
