A new a radio station dubbed Energy 106 (106.1 FM) has hit the Winnipeg air-waves. It has been playing music since June 2011 (testing phase) and officially launched on July 29, 2011.
As with other stations in their inaugural month, they are playing 10,000 songs in a row to sample their genre of music. I’m very impressed with the music selection so far.
However, it doesn’t seem that the 10,000-in-a-row playlist has any CRTC regulations in place yet. The CRTC requires all ‘popular music’ radio stations to dedicate 35% of its broadcasting to Canadian content (Justin Bieber doesn’t count), so the current content will indeed change once it kicks in.
Hot 103 will always have my heart, but variety is the spice of life. I’m looking forward to having another station on me presets.
