The Winnipeg Police Service announced today that drivers will no longer have to report minor fender benders to the police. In the past, no matter how small the fender bender was, MPI and city required you to file a police report.
Starting Monday, October 10, 2011 under changes to the Highway Traffic Act, drivers will only be required to report to police a collision that involves:
* a fatality
* serious injury
* unlicensed drivers or vehicles
* unidentified vehicles (for example, hit and run, failure to exchange particulars)
* the suspected use of drugs or alcohol
Vandalism, theft or attempted theft should still be reported to police. MPI will also assist with the new changes and notify you if a report is required upon making a claim. [WINNIPEG FREE PRESS]
