The city will be introducing an electronic fare collection system by fall of 2013. The system will use reloadable cards that can be filled online, over the phone, or at retailers (just like a gift card).
Mobile technology has finally evolved enough for Winnipeg Transit to make the investment in installing electronic fare collection systems on all of its buses. The new system is expected to be up and running by October 2013.
With the new convenience of reloading cards online, Winnipeg Transit will also cut down on the number of retailers where tickets can be purchased. [WINNIPEG FREE PRESS]
