There will be a lots to do this Monday, July 1, when Canada celebrates it’s 146th birthday. Don’t be shy to show your patriotism by rocking the red and white – we all know you still have some from the 2012 Olympics!
Assiniboine Park Zoo
Don’t forget that Zoo entrance is no longer free on Canada Day. It has been changed to a Free Weekend in September due to extremely high attendance numbers during Canada Day. The high attendance created overcrowding and increased the potential for an unsafe environment within the Zoo. The Zoo continues to remain open at General Admission rates.
Assiniboine Park – Picnic in the Park
The annual Canada Day Picnic in the Park is a great all-day event for all ages. This is something for everyone throughout the day. There is also FREE Canada Day Birthday Cake at 3:30pm. Fireworks wrap up the night at dusk. For a complete listing of events, click here.
Canada Day at The Forks
Activities include a focus on Manitoba Music with all local line-up on the Scotiabank Stage. From 1:00pm – 11:00 pm The Forks is offering family-friendly activities all day long including clowns, musicians, buskers, crafts and entertainment all over. Fireworks wrap up the evening at dusk. For a complete list of events, click here.
Osborne Village Canada Day Street Festival
Osborne Village, which was recently voted Canada’s Great Neighborhood, will be having its annual Canada Day Street Festival. Out of all the Canada Day events in the city, this has to be our favourite. The entire block of Osborne Village is closed down for a huge street party. More information can be found here.
Beaches
Canada Day is often the busiest day for all beaches around Winnipeg. If the weather stays right, expect every single beach to be crowded. Birds Hill is usually the busiest – so busy that you can’t even see any sand. Make sure to set your alarms early on Canada Day to guarantee yourself a spot in the warm sand.
Have a great long weekend Winnipeg: whether you’re in the city, or enjoying one of Manitoba’s beautiful camp grounds! Stay safe, and drink responsibly!
