The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have agreed to terms with import receiver Mike Sims-Walker, the team announced today.
“Mike is a very experienced receiver who we feel possesses great skill that could allow him to excel on our wide-open fields in Canada,” said Acting General Manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Kyle Walters. “We’re looking forward to getting him acclimated to the CFL game.”
Sims-Walker (6-2, 214, Central Florida, DOB: November 21, 1984 in Orlando, Florida) was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round (79th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft following a standout collegiate career that saw him record 184 receptions for 2,561 yards in 46 games. Twice named an All-Conference USA selection, he set the school’s all-time record for receptions in a season when he recorded 90 in his senior year. After sitting out his rookie season in Jacksonville due to injury, Sims-Walker recorded 122 receptions over the next three seasons for 1,648 yards and 14 touchdowns before spending time with the St. Louis Rams in 2011. He was released by the Rams in October after catching 11 passes for 139 yards and returned to Jacksonville that season but suffered a season-ending injury in November.
