The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds residents to be cautious around ice-covered bodies of water including rivers, streams, creeks, ponds and ditches.
As winter arrives and temperatures begin to drop, ice will begin to form on all open bodies of water, creating extremely dangerous conditions.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service received over 100 water and ice safety calls in 2012, and initiated full search and rescue efforts for 69 of those calls.
