Winnipeg Goldeyes Pitch First No-Hitter in Franchise History

Five Winnipeg Goldeyes relievers put there talents together on Wednesday to throw the franchises first no-hitter. It resulted in a 3-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries in the second game of a doubleheader. The game was in Sioux Falls Stadium in front of 3,268 spectators.

  • Kaohi Downing – 2 2/3 innings
  • Taylor Sewitt – 1/3 inning
  • Brendan Lafferty – 1 inning
  • Kyle Bellamy – 2/3 inning

“I am going to be smiling for the rest of the night, that’s for sure,” Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show.

The Goldeyes are now in a tie for first place in the North Division.

“We just kept on giving the ball to the next guy and they just kept on getting the job done,” Vermilyea said. One of the unsung heroes in the no-no was catcher Luis Alen, who caught 14 innings between the two games. “That’s tough to do as a catcher,” Vermilyea said. “That’s a long day behind the plate.
